Originally trained as a Graphic Designer, I have produced designs and illustrations for a range of clients over the years, including The Royal Festival Hall, The Royal National Theatre, The London Philharmonic, The Japan Foundation, The Levellers and NMC recordings. My influences include Saul Steinberg, André Francois and Tomi Ungerer who all are masters of witty conceptual design. The perfect design solution would have to be witty, sharp and to the point… and hopefully make you smile. With this approach, and wherever possible, I experiment to combine many disciplines, photography, printmaking, illustration, typography or whatever comes to hand!
I have also illustrated 12 childrens books for Harper Collins, Ginn, Franklin Watts and Hachette.
In collaboration with my partner, knitwear designer Lucinda Guy, together we produced a series of knitting pattern books for Rowan which combined photography, illustration and knitwear instead of using traditional models. This idea led to a small series of Learn to books for knitting, crochet and stitching aimed at children, the emphasis was to make them fun, unique and distinct, but also giving very clear diagrams and instructions. These have proved very popular due to their fresh unique approach, even for adults!
